Services

Information and Referral: Our agency operates as a 'clearing house' for answering questions and concerns from seniors, their families or support help and others seeking assistance. If we don't have an answer or the needed service, we will follow up until any concern is satisfactorily addressed.

Private-Pay Personal Care Referral File

Individuals in the community who will provide in-home assistance.

Support Groups

-Alzheimer's Caregivers Support Group We are meeting in person at the Heimach Center. Meets 3rd Thursday of each month at 2 p.m., facilitator is Jill Headrick from the Alzheimer's Association of Fort Wayne and Sue Daniels from Miller's Merry Manor; the group is co-sponsored by Alzheimer's Association. -Parkview Hospice Bereavement Group We are meeting in person at the Heimach Center on Monday, January 13 @ 1-2:30 and will meet through March 17. Support group members will receive a free copy of the book, “Understanding Your Grief,” by Alan Wolfe, which will be read and discussed throughout the meetings. Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, recently or longer ago, and seeks a compassionate, supportive environment in which to heal is welcome to attend. To enroll or ask questions call 1-800-292-9894.

Emergency Small Food Pantry

Non-Perishables available to help in emergencies when other entities aren't available.
Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m., T-F
A donation container is located in the main lobby for those who are able and wish to share. Call 260-925-3311 for a current list of items needed.

SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program)

The key word is "information." SHIP volunteers do not sell anything.
Counselors offer FREE assistance to Medicare beneficiaries who have concerns or questions about health insurance, prescription drug programs and extra help.

Tax Assistance (February-April)

DeKalb County Council on Aging is pleased to offer tax preparation for DeKalb County residents.
Appointments are available and preference is given to DeKalb County Seniors ago 50+ (although other ages will be served). Call the Heimach Center for information regarding appointment times and what to bring with you at your appointed time.

Medical Equipment Loan Program

Shower chairs, portable potty chairs, raised toilet seats, toilet arms, walkers, canes, and crutches are available for temporary use at home.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are essential to the many services and programs provided by the DeKalb County Council on Aging; the agency invites interested persons to contact the center for volunteer opportunities.

Foot Care

Foot Care with Ken & Jeanne- Provides affordable foot and toenail care. Please call the Heimach Center at 260-925-3311 to schedule your appointment. The cost of each foot care appointment is $25.

Also Available

Pamphlet racks, lending library for Diabetic, Dementia and other issues, blood pressure checks, hearing screenings and annual flu shots.
